About

I'm Javier, and this site is my space for thinking about what it means to live deliberately—how we learn, how we stay present, how we navigate the tension between provision and presence, and how we show up as parents.

Most of my writing falls into two categories: essays where I explore questions about learning, spirituality, work, leisure, and the ordinary dimensions of being human, and experiments where I document technical projects and what I'm learning about how things actually work.

What I'm interested in

  • Being present and paying full attention to life
  • Parenting as spiritual practice
  • The relationship between leisure and work, and resistance to capitalism's demands
  • First principles thinking—understanding where things come from and how they're actually made
  • Learning from the ground up, not for optimization but for comprehension
  • Living a full and healthy life, as wholeness rather than performance

Approach

I believe in being rooted—in direct experience, in understanding fundamentals, in thinking that starts from the ground beneath your feet rather than abstract theories.

I'm drawn to gentle persistence: keeping important questions alive in the background of life and making steady progress over years rather than months. Not optimization, but sustained attention.

I try to resist the "I must work to live" machinery of capitalism while also being realistic about the need to provide for my family. It's a tension I'm still learning to navigate.

This site

Think of this as my digital garden - a place where ideas can grow and evolve. Essays might get updated as my thinking develops. Experiments might spawn new questions that become future projects.

I write for myself first, but I publish because I've learned the most from people who think out loud. If something here sparks a thought or question, I'd love to hear about it.
